About

Stephen K Amos has charmed and entertained audiences all over the world with his natural, assured delivery and his honest, original material.

A gifted actor, Amos has impressed critics with his performances on stage and screen and has proved he is one of the most unique comedy voices of his generation but demonstrated a penchant for drama roles. Stephen can currently be seen in cinemas in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Comfortable as a performer, presenter, actor and guest there is no doubt that Amos will retain his position as one of the nation's favourite comedians for a long time to come.

Stephen is currently on the Australian leg of his new tour Oxymoron. In May 2023 he finished the Australian leg of his tour Before and Laughter which was postponed due to the pandemic. His previous show Everyman toured the UK and then went on to Australia in 2020. In 2018 Stephen toured Bouquets & Brickbats around the UK, Europe, South East Asia and Australia. Stephen was also asked back on to QI featuring in the first episode of series P. He also took part in a new BBC Two series Pilgrimage The Road To Rome.

Stephen had another busy year in 2017. He presented the critically acclaimed documentary Prejudice and Pride on BBC Four, with Susan Calman. He took two shows to the Edinburgh Fringe; a work in progress of his new tour as well as bringing back the fan favourite Stephen K Amos Chat Show to the Gilded Balloon. He wowed the crowds at the Glastonbury Festival, recorded an episode of QI and the Museum of Curiosity. His tour Bread and Circuses began in November and continued in Australia early 2018.

Stephen's first book - I Used To Say My Mother Was Shirley Bassey - is a memoir of a lifetime of fitting in, standing out, and (almost) always laughing. It is available to buy now from book shops or online.

In 2015, Stephen concluded his National UK tour with a two week sell-out run at Soho Theatre before taking his show - Welcome To My World - across Australia and New Zealand. Having gone so well, Stephen announced his first European tour of the show before going straight into his new show, The Laughter Master (2015-16).

The Laughter Master also toured the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

In 2014, Series Three of Life: An Idiots Guide was commissioned. Stephen also took What Does The K Stand For? to Australia and New Zealand.

2013 saw Stephen tour the UK, Australia and New Zealand with his hit show, The Spokesman. Continuing Stephen's tradition of generating new and unique shows, he performed a Work In Progress at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, alongside his live talk show.

In 2012, following his success of past years, Stephen once again travelled to Australia, this time to perform his new show, Laughter Is My Agenda, at all of the major festivals as part of an Australian tour. He then returned to the world renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe with a new Work In Progress which was a total sell out; before doing a full UK Autumn tour. Alongside this, Stephen also recorded the second series of his hit radio series Life: An Idiots Guide for BBC Radio 4.

In 2011, Stephen embarked on his Best Medicine tour, performing his solo show to sold-out crowds around the country. He also appeared in Dave's One Night Stand. And in 2010 Stephen starred in his first TV series - The Stephen K Amos Show - for BBC Two, which is now available to buy on DVD. Meanwhile, his second DVD The Feelgood Factor was filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo!

His debut DVD Find the Funny, recorded at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney, was released November 2009.

TALKING COMEDY

"A note-perfect hour." Metro ★★★★★

"Unashamed feel-good entertainment. Amos has had his share of TV exposure, but nothing that has successfully captured what he does live. If only a broadcaster could bottle the magic that was conjured up last night Amos would finally be a household name way beyond the Amos household." The Evening Standard ★★★★

"Amos is a brilliant comedian who has the ability to strike up an instant rapport with his live audience. I’ve seen him stand in front of a room of strangers and after a few minutes they all seem to be his friends." Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke

"As his autobiographical sitcom plays out on Radio 4, Amos is officially becoming a national treasure. Expect more warm insight and spiky charm here." The Sunday Times

THE SPOKESMAN

“My personal highlight was Stephen K Amos who had the audience in stitches. I would urge comedy lovers to buy a ticket before it sells out.” Broadway Baby

"An eloquent and inherently charming performer, Amos has the distinction of being simply hilarious too. It's this kind of triple-threat that defines great stand-up comedy and, indeed, makes The Spokesman an A-grade affair. If you're only out to see one or two shows this festival and you need to be assured of a great night, consider Amos one of your go-to guys. Highly recommended." Beat.com

“Stephen K Amos is brilliant and even though he says this show is still in development, it is already a highlight of the Fringe.” FiveAA ★★★★★

"His material is impeccably crafted, his comic timing skilful and, throughout the show, his delivery remains conversational, amiable and relaxed as he strolls through local and global topics." Herald Sun ★★★★1/2

"The audience loved him and the feeling was mutual." Adelaide Now ★★★★

"Stephen K Amos is a funny man. I know he is supposed to be funny; he does stand-up comedy. But even so, he is genuinely funny in the way that makes your jaw ache from laughing." InDaily ★★★★

LAUGHTER IS MY AGENDA

“Amos has the easy-going confidence of a stand-up veteran who is at the top of his game.” NZ Herald

"It was all fabulous. But it was when rifling with the audience that Amos truly excelled. With a packed venue ready on his side, Amos drew people into his routines; his finely honed sensibility turned innocent remarks into comedy gold" Herald Sun

THE BEST MEDICINE

"The warmest comic around, able to riff off a crowd and make them feel good about themselves." The Sunday Times

“With Amos there is quality comedy on offer and the man is a natural comic. The performance as always was polished, professional and good value for money. Top form yet again.” One4Review ★★★★

“Proof that laughter really is the best medicine.” Three Weeks ★★★★

THE FEELGOOD FACTOR

"Stephen K Amos is the embodiment of charisma. From the first minute to the last, he never lets the audience out of the palm of his hand. Amos's show is packed with well-observed material, performed hilariously. His affection for the audience is the killer blow, culminating in an all-singing, all-dancing party to which everyone is invited. No one could possibly have left this feel good show without a beaming smile on their face. A real stormer." Chortle

"If laughter is the best medicine then Amos should be prescribed by the NHS for his formidable healing powers." The Evening Standard

"The endlessly likeable Amos calls his new show The Feelgood Factor. It's an accurate description." The Sunday Times

"Half the audience would probably be squirming with terror, were it not for his winning charm and irrepressible charisma. Amos gives the impression of one born to entertain. He keeps the gags flowing thick and fast with sharp observations and stories before producing more devastating one-liners from up his sleeve." Metro
